Virtue-based Character Formation at Epiphany Catholic School
We believe that true education forms both the mind and the heart. That is why we have adopted Education In Virtue (EIV), a Catholic virtue formation program developed by the Dominican Sisters of Mary, Mother of the Eucharist offered through Openlight Media (link?).
Rooted in Sacred Scripture, the teachings of St. Thomas Aquinas, and the rich tradition of the Catholic Church, EIV helps students and adults alike to understand that virtue is not simply about avoiding wrongdoing–it’s about developing the habits that lead us toward what is Good, drawing us closer to Jesus Christ and His Kingdom.
Rather than following a checklist of lessons, or a prescribed “order” of virtues per month, EIV provides a whole library of resources that allows our faculty to decide together what virtues our schoolwide community focuses on, based on needs or other at any given time. Through ongoing observation, collaboration, prayer, our faculty and staff work together to cultivate a common language of virtue that’s woven throughout all we do – in classrooms, hallways, at athletic events on and off campus.
Our subscription to EIV also extends beyond the school day. It also serves to strengthen the partnership between school and family, by providing unlimited access for parents and families, inviting them to bring EIV into their homes through engaging videos, reflections and a myriad of practical resources.
