At Epiphany Catholic School, we believe education is a formation of the whole child – academically, spiritually, morally, emotionally, physically, and socially. From our youngest learners in Early Childhood, age 3 through our graduating 8th graders, our curriculum is rooted in the Catholic faith and designed to adequately challenge each learner as an individual. Our philosophy is that education requires design that fosters curiosity, creative problem-solving, critical thought, virtuous aim, and a lifelong love of learning. Through engaging, research-based instructional practices and curricular material, meaningful relationships, differentiated learning, and a balanced approach that combines timeless teaching methods with purposeful technology, we strive to help every student discover, appreciate and develop their unique and God-given gifts and talents.
Our Philosophy on Technology
At Epiphany Catholic School, we believe technology should enhance learning, not replace it. Every classroom, PreK-8, is equipped with modern instructional technology, including interactive classroom displays, and every teacher has access to their own classroom sets of Chromebooks to support student learning.
Technology is thoughtfully integrated into instruction to enrich lessons, encourage creativity, provide individualized intervention / challenge for each learner, strengthen collaboration, and help students develop responsible digital literacy skills. At the same time, we believe the best learning continues to happen through excellent teaching, meaningful discussion, hands-on exploration, note-taking, pen/paper writing, reading age-appropriate quality literature, problem-solving, and authentic relationships.
As students grow, so do their technology skills. In the upper elementary grades and continuing through Junior High, students learn practical digital skills that prepare them for future academic and career success, including keyboarding and proper typing technique, and effective use of Google Suite tools. Ultimately, our students learn effective and ethical use of educational technology.
Our Chromebooks remain at school – they are not taken home each day. We firmly believe that screens should not become a substitute for engaged teaching or active learning. Instead, technology serves as one of many tools our teachers use to help students grow academically and to prepare them for success in an ever-changing world that requires an understanding and responsible response to technology.
